Local Agriculture

Located on campus, the student farm has opportunities for students to work as interns and volunteers. The Market Garden is a small 5 acre plot where vegetables are grown year round for a Community Supported Agriculture subscription program and for sale to the on-campus Coffee House. The Ecological Garden offers the chance to work on a home garden scale and work with children in a garden.

Community Alliance with Family Farmers is a California based non-profit headquartered just outside of Davis. CAFF works with farmers, governments and community members to promote and maintain the viability of local small-scale farmers. There are chapters throughout the state which offer opportunities for internships and volunteering.

California Certified Organic Farmers is an organic farming certification organization. They work to promote organic farming and inspect farms. There are many CCOF certified farmers in the Davis area and the local director works at the UC Davis Student Farm. This site has a farmer directory and links to apprenticeships.

Eatwell Farm is a local small organic farm outside of Davis. The owners are Nigel Walker and Frances Andrews. They grow a variety of fruits and vegetables for Farmers' Markets and a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) project.

Fullbelly Farm is home to the Hoes Down harvest festival: always a fall site to meet up with your pals in IAD. They also grow a variety of fruits and vegetables for Farmers' Markets and a large CSA. Many of the farm partners are involved in community agriculture.

The National Resource Conservation Service, Davis Regional Office has all the soil and agriculture conservation information for the surrounding local and national area. They are involved in a variety of research and government sponsored farmer education programs.
