Bio

Jumia is a candidate in the International Agricultural Development Program deepening their land practice while bridging the narratives between food sovereignty, community-led land movements, and radical community resilience actions. As a community organizer in New Orleans, Memphis & Oakland– across township & cityscape alike, jumia focuses on understanding food security and land access movements which parallel the communities most vulnerable to these engineered issues.

Through the IAD program, jumia aims to create tools and frameworks geared towards grassroots stewards that will grow methods of agroecological landwork in realms of policy, labor and soil. as a worldbuilder and lorekeeper, jumia feels their role is to compost their environment to fertilize alternative futures alongside the cultivators of it. they hope to pair with small farming projects to conduct field study and document the social and agricultural pedagogies found within them.

Jumia hales from Memphis, TN but their roots stem across the South from the armpit of Florida to the Mississippi riverbeds. they enjoy sharing recipes & their stories, ever enthralled by the heritage crops that bring people into the kitchen. while jumia loves a long drive with a great playlist, they can be welcomed to sit with a cup of tea at any time of day.
